“This is life, guys, this is life!” A little invitation from Hubertus, who is rarely happier than with a summit underfoot. And the beauty of the Sonnenhof is how close all of this really is. From the hotel, hop on a bike or in the car up to Gaflei, then continue on foot to the summit of the Alpspitz, a walk that is well within reach for anyone reasonably sure-footed, and endlessly rewarding.
The reward? The Fürstensteig, Liechtenstein’s famous cliff path, winding along the ridge below you. Vaduz tucked into the valley, the Rhine threading silver through it. And the unmistakable Nashornfelsen, “Rhino Rock”, standing guard right beside you. Some views you have to earn on foot, and that is exactly what makes them stay with you long after you have come back down.
And because this is Liechtenstein, the mountains like to keep their surprises. This May, fresh snow fell in the middle of the month and Hubertus was straight up there on his skis. Spring ski-touring under a blue sky, who would have thought. It is part of what we love about this corner of the Alps: in the space of a single day you can have breakfast among the hydrangeas and stand on a snow-dusted summit by lunch. We are always glad to point you to the right trail, lend a tip, and have something warm waiting when you return.
